First Responders Newsletter
July 2011
Are we all settling down, and getting into the "holidays
on the Shuswap" mode?
Did you all enjoy the Canada Day Celebrations? I hope
so, we should be very proud of our country, as, compared
to some areas of this world, we live in Paradise,
No?
I have a correction to make, in the May 2011 issue it
was stated that the Orange Medical Emergency Bottles
Drive was done by the Sorrento OAPO, It was the Ta'Lana
Women's Institute that is responsible for getting these
bottles into our homes. A very worth while endeavour.
Everyone should have these in there home, one for every
member of the family.
If you are interested in obtaining these bottles you may
call Barb Hurtsfield at 250-675-2157.
SSFR has been in operation for almost 11 years now and
some of our equipment has seen better days and is ready
for retirement. Salmon Arm Credit Union's board of
directors has approved a very healthy Sponsorship
donation, to support in updating and replacing some of
our "retirement" equipment. A very big THANK YOU to
SACU. Awesome!
Saturday, July 23, 2011, Shannon and 4-5 other FR's will
be participating in a Disaster Awareness Emergency
Management training session. They will be trained on
how to help the public find the services they need in
the event of any kind of disaster. How to train
families for emergency preparedness etc. Absolutely
amazing, it seems a long time coming, but the public is
getting into Emergency Planning and that is a "Good
Thing."
We are thrilled to have Mark and Kyle from Sunnybrae and
Cam as officially certified First Responders. Welcome
Guys. We still need a few more responders in our
outlying areas. Tappen, White Lake, Eagle Bay, Notch
Hill as well as Blind Bay, Sorrento, and the area west
of Sorrento is needing somebody too. We also need a few
more dispatchers, anyone interested in filling one or
more of these positions can call Sherri 250-675-2420 for
more information. We meet every second Wednesday 7:00pm
Fire Hall #1 Passchendale Road, next to the Sorrento
Hall, come to our practices and see what's going on, you
are more then welcome.
One of our dispatchers is Anne Long, she is a retired
Community Health Nurse from Burnaby, and being retired,
greatly misses helping people in need, especially in the
health care department. Since she is a 24/7 care giver
at home, her desire to give to the community is
dispatching for the First Responders and we very much
appreciate her dedication. Thank you Anne for a job
well done.
To make emergency calls more efficient, reflective house
numbers is a tremendous help. If you haven't got yours,
make it a summer project to buy a sign and put it up
properly and feel real good about yourself for doing a
good deed. Debbie or Tom will be glad to take your
order the number to call is 250 675 3355, don't just
stand there, pick up the phone, Thank you. The First
Responders Thank you, The Police Thank you and The
Firefighters Thank you.
